Updates to Cloud Shell docker image

Azure Cloud Shell offers lots of useful tools for managing Azure. Cloud Shell was recently offered as a docker image, so you can install it wherever you want.

Microsoft is constantly updating Cloud Shell, and most recently, the following updates have become available:

  • The base image is now based on a variant of Debian 10 called CBL-D following the “compiled-from-source” model. CLB-D is compiled internally by Microsoft and thus protects against supply chain attacks. CLB-D tracks Debian 10 closely.
  • Updates to SDKs and runtimes: PowerShell 7.1, Python 3.7, and Ruby 2.5.

Happy cloud shelling!
